Mad Cowford Improv Presents Comedy for Critters
Jacksonville’s Premier Improv Troupe Hosts Comedy Show to Benefit ASPCA

Recap:  The event was successful raising over $300 for the ASPCA and the Jacksonville Humane Society.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Jacksonville, FL, April 2, 2009; Mad Cowford Improv, Jacksonville’s only live improvisational comedy troupe will host a comedy show to benefit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) on Friday, April 10
th at 8:00 p.m. The comedy show will take place at Northstar Substation at 119 E. Bay St. and is open to the public.

The purpose of the improv comedy show is to bring awareness to ASPCA Day on April 10th which is the animal rescue organization’s 143rd anniversary. Performers will wear orange to promote awareness of animal cruelty issues and animal rescue. Audience members are also encouraged to wear orange to show their support and the first 40 to arrive will receive a free ASPCA bracelet.

There is a suggested donation of $10.00 for tickets. A charity raffle will also be held for a chance to win exciting prizes that have been donated by local businesses. 100% of proceeds benefit the ASPCA and the Jacksonville Humane Society. Allstate Dealer Services will match the donations with an additional 15%. Reservations may be made by calling Rachel Wical at (904) 608-1148.

Mad Cowford Improv organized the comedy event in recognition of the ASPCA’s contributions to the First Coast. Recently, the ASPCA provided a $10,000 emergency grant to the Jacksonville Humane Society after a tragic fire consumed one of the buildings that had housed over 150 dogs and cats. The ASPCA continues to lessen the injustices animals face and battle animal cruelty, whether it’s saving a pet that has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse, or sharing resources with shelters across the country. The organization also provides training to police officers so they can recognize animal cruelty and take appropriate action.

“Many of the Mad Cowford players have rescued pets, so the ASPCA is an organization we believe in,” says cast director John Kalinowski. “It’s the APSCA’s 143rd birthday, which of course is 1001 in dog years. Go Orange!”

Update: Mad Cowford's Film Wins Best of Jacksonville's 48 Hour Film Project

In brief: We won!

Before we go into details about this exciting news, we want you, our fans, to celebrate our victory with us tonight (May 30th, 2008) at Mad Cowford's comedy improv show at 9th and Main at 8pm.  And, if you say, "HOT PIE" you will be rewarded with a 2 for 1 special ($5 for two people, instead of $5 per person)!  We will be attempting to show our prize-winning film and show off our awards.  Of course, there will be a full show of funny based upon your suggestions!  If you cannot make it tonight, we will soon be uploading our film right here on our main page.   Thanks again to our sponsors of the film.  Without you, we could not have made it happen.

Mad Cowford's Film, "Silent Movie . . . The Musical!" was chosen as the Best of Jax 48-Hour Film, and will go on to the national competition which will be held in early 2009.  We will also have the chance to compete in a national "Fall Shootout" and make a 3 minute film sometime later this year.  We also got a big check, an actual check for $500, and a trophy.

Most exciting, there were calls for us to perform "The Hot Pie" on stage.  Check out some photos of us winning, and dancing, on the T-U website:

I cannot say enough what a pleasure it was to work with everyone on the film, and what an amazing job everyone did.  This was truly a team effort.

Aside from Best Film, a number of people were honored individually for their work.  If I forget someone, mea culpa, but it is hard keeping SO MANY AWARDS straight:

Best Actress: Teresa Arnold-Simmons
Best Make-Up:  Rachel Wical
Best Costumes: Rachel Wical
Best Graphics: Kris Gallagher
Best Editing:  Kris Gallagher, Sherry Spearman, and Doug Dorsey
Best Choreography:  Bill Welch (this was a specially created award just for Bill).

Come celebrate our film and our victory with us!

Regards,

You Voted And Our Fans Shall Be Called...  Pasture Pals!!!

Thanks for your votes!  It was an extremely close contest between the "Pasture Pals" faithful and the stalwart "Jolly Ranchers" folks.  In the end, "Pasture Pals" won by one vote.

We are glad that you are our Pasture Pals, and we look forward to grazing with you at our next show.

Afterthoughts: Special Event - Mad Cowford's First Ever Long Form Improv Show on May 11th, 2007

On May 11th, Mad Cowford performed its first ever ALL LONGFORM Improv SHOW.

It was a fantastic show!  The crowd was incredibly responsive and there was a vortex of energy emanating from them.  In fact, we had some special guests from Daytona Beach's improv troupe Random Acts of Improv (www.randomactsimprov.com) attend the show.

Like most live theatre experiences, the show is better seen than explained, but I will give some highlights.  The first half of the show was an Armando Diaz experience long form (Bobby Parker was Armando Diaz), where the crowd learned the following interesting tidbits:
  • Johnny K likes to juice a little too much
  • The proper and improper ways to play a clarinet
  • Both the roaring twenties and the depressing thirties went better with honey
  • Don't ever sleep on road trips
  • Unless you want to lose a limb, do not attend Bobby's high school
  • A lot of people are named C(K)arl

The second half was a Six Degrees long form around the hot new underground sport of Ultimate Fighting Basketball.

Again, our shows are much better seen than explained, because they are unplanned experiences, so rather than having a fan or one of us tell you about the show, come see us.

We Love Our Fans!!!

Here are some of our most faithful Pasture Pals. Come to our shows, and then check back to see if we caught you on film.
